Monthly Service Reminder

I remember attending Sunday School (Tenrikyo) as a child.  One of the students asked the teacher, “How is it that Tenrikyo teaches that we came from a fish and a serpent, yet in school, we are taught that we came from a monkey?”  The teacher was not of the intellectual type, rather a more “blue collar” type of person, but now looking back, he gave a rather profound answer.  He explained that as new discoveries are being made, science and Tenrikyo are getting closer together.  I can think of a couple examples:

  1. In the Tenrikyo truth of origin, there is a stage in which there was a “she monkey” (I suppose female) who gave birth to five males and five females.
  2. In another section, it says that humans originally lived in the water, but eventually came to live on land.

Recently, there are many studies about how prayer is effective in healing.  Previously science did not even consider the effectiveness of prayer for healing.  But the results are undeniable and I cannot help but reflect back on what this teacher said.  This month's sermon will discuss the effectiveness of faith and prayer to bring about healing, and how we can develop our faith and prayer in our daily life.

If you have administered the sazuke in the month of July, please let me know how many times.  We are on track to reach our goal of 500 administrations for this year 2011 with 301 administrations as of July 31.  If possible please send the date and the persons name so that we may include them in our prayers.

Please join us in gratitude and prayer in the service for “universal salvation”, this Sunday, August 14, 2011, 10am
