1989 Dodge Van Farewell

WP_20140430_001

We want to once again thank Tomo Kaisho for his donation of a 2005 Savana 15-passenger van which just completed repairs, safety check and registration.

At the same time, we bid farewell and express our thanks to our 89 Dodge van which has served us faithfully for 7 years from 2007. I will be putting it up for sale on Craigslist, but before that I want to make it available to our church members or their friends who might be interested in purchasing it. See below for photos.

It’s has a little over 104,000 miles on it.

It’s a 15-passenger, but sits only 11 due to the back bench seat was removed and disposed of to make space to load equipment.

The bad

  • A/C front doesn’t work due to fan broken, should be an easy repair at repair shop.
  • Some rust, see photo
  • Roof leaks, but repairable
  • Dent on the back left rear side body, see photo.
  • Sliding door needs a little upward elbow grease to close.
  • Safety check expired 4/30/14. Windshield washer spray needs to be repaired to pass safety inspection.

The good

  • The engine runs well, smooth and strong.
  • The back a/c works
  • The registration was just renewed, expires in March 2015, $416 value
  • Spare tire, jack, tire iron included
  • Tires are in good shape.
  • Brake master cylinder was replaced a few years ago.
  • Battery is fairly new.

Asking $1000.

Yoboku Gathering this Saturday 9am

Yoboku Gathering for the 130th Anniversary
Yoboku Gathering for the 130th Anniversary

As an activity leading up to Oyasama’s 130th Anniversary the Mission Headquarters will be conducting a Yoboku Gathering this Saturday, March 15, 9am – 11:30am.

The anniversary of Oyasama is a season to reaffirm our faith and to resolve to do salvation work as Yoboku (timber) to serve as material in building the Joyous Life world. If we pay attention to those around us, we will realize that many people are worrying about their health problems, family issues, and relationship concerns. In order to settle the mind to work for the salvation of others and fulfill our role as Yoboku, let us attend this event as an important step in realizing our goal.

Setsumi’s brother Rev. Toshi Yukimoto of Central Fresno Church will be our guest speaker. The program will also include two video presentations.

To get an idea of how many will be attending from Pearl Church, please respond to this email indicating whether you will be attending or not.

Mahalo for your support.

February Monthly Service 2014

IMG_20140209_122112

We had the honor of having the Bishop and his family attend this month’s service.  I would like to thank everyone for your support, offerings and for joining us in welcoming him and taking the time to get to know him and Mrs. Yamanaka.  We had a record number of attendees at 35.

January Grand Service 2014

Thank you everyone for your sincere offerings and dedicated hinokishin in the community and for the Path.

This month’s service is called the January Grand Service instead of monthly service because we are observing Oyasama’s withdrawal from physical life which occurred on January 26, 1887. She is not reborn into another human body, like the rest of us, but that She is everliving in spirit, working day and night for world salvation.

We were mentioning to some of you that the “new” Bishop and Mrs. Yamanaka would be attending the Pearl Church service for the first time since he became bishop, however, due to the untimely passing of his brother in Japan, he will be cancelling his visit to attend the funeral.

We are disappointed, however, we urge everyone make every effort to attend and worship just the same.

Miracles do happen and in our sermon, we will be discussing how we should use seemingly negative situations in a positive way and resolve to plant good seeds that will lead us to the Joyous Life.

Typhoon Disaster in Philippines

Our  hearts and prayers go out to people of the Philippines as they deal with the aftermath of a severe storm.  The latest news from CNN report:

Tacloban, Philippines (CNN) — More than a week after Typhoon Haiyan laid waste to much of the central Philippines, the toll is overwhelming: entire communities flattened, thousands dead and nearly 2 million people displaced.

The arrival in recent days of hundreds of aid workers and military troops has seen a flood gate of humanitarian aid — food, water and medical supplies — open, albeit sporadically, in the hard hit provinces.

Crews continued Saturday to collect bodies from streets, with the death toll raised to 3,633, according to the national disaster agency’s official death count.

The number of injured stood at 12,487, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported. At least 1,179 were missing.

The mission hq of Hawaii haven’t made any announcement yet, but we would like to start a monetary collection drive to help the survivors of this disaster.  We will report later as to which humanitarian agency it will be sent to, but it will most likely be the Red Cross.
